Once the well has been drilled successfully, it must be completed to make it ready for production. Completion is the procedure by which a successful well is readied for production. All the drilling rig equipment is replaced with a portable completion rig. A wellhead is installed which includes valves, chokes and pressure gauges that make it possible to regulate production from the well.
Flaring is sometimes necessary
to test a Trenton-Black River well during the completion process.
The flare is ignited under controlled procedures to reduce gas emissions
while maintaining the integrity of the test. Analyzing the bottom
hole pressure and temperature with the rate of surface flow through
different choke settings helps estimate reservoir characteristics.
These reservoir characteristics are important for royalty owners,
because they help to estimate the size and productivity of the potential
reservoir.
